Virtual Workouts!

Virtual Workouts

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the Virtual Studio?

Wherever you are with an internet connection! We will be using the web-based Zoom meeting platform to offer real-time workouts and opportunities for connection. It was important to us that everyone be able to see one another’s faces and chat with each other before and after the workout as we do during live classes. You will need a computer with a web browser or a mobile device with the Zoom app. We recommend using a computer or tv screen to most easily follow along with the workout.

How do I get access to Virtual Studio class?

* Enroll at least 30 minutes before class time using the Pike13 app or at piedmont.fit4mom.com/schedule.

* The password protected zoom link it sent out every Sunday in the Member's Only Newsletter.

* Approximately 5 minutes before class, the instructor will open the virtual studio to allow time for chatting prior to the start of class. We recommend using a computer or tv screen to most easily follow along with the workout.

* Please allow yourself extra time before your first class to become familiar with the Zoom platform.

* Locate your audio/video buttons so that you can turn them on and off as requested/desired.

* Explore different views available to you. We recommend the Gallery view when we are chatting informally and the Full Screen Active Speaker view during the workout.

What should I do with my kiddo during class?

We will engage kiddos as much as possible during virtual classes. You might try one or many of the following ideas at different parts of the workout if your kiddo is present:

* Kiddo in stroller, car seat carrier, floor mat, on couch, or any "special seat"

* “Working out” next to you on their own mat

* Coloring Books, books, puzzles, stickers, craft, play-doh, novelties you don’t dish out often

* Breakfast/Snacks that take a long time to eat

* Scavenger hunt ("can you find mommy and blue dinosaur?")

* Send them outside for a nice long walk with your partner

What if my kiddo interrupts me?

It’s ok! Our kiddos will need to get used to this new normal, so be flexible! Calmly take a few minutes to engage with them and try something you haven’t tried yet from the above list. You’ll be muted during the workout, so we won’t hear you or them, and you’re welcome to turn off your video at any time if needed. Jump back in when you can, even if it’s just for the final three deep breaths and hangout/coffee chat to follow!

What will I need for class?

For Every Class:

* Approximately 6’ x 6’ space

* Water

* Exercise Mat or Towel

* Resistance Tube Band, hand weights, or any equally weighted handheld objects

* Sweat Towel

* Background music (optional)

* Kid entertainment (if awake)

Additional Items for Stroller Barre:

* Core Ball (sub: balloon, kid’s ball, mini loop band, any 8”-ish lightweight handheld object)

* High-back chair if needed for balance

What if I am or my house is a hot mess?

We don’t care! Come 1000% as you are and with your house as it is. We have always prided ourselves in offering a judgment free community, and we don’t want our new structure to feel any different!

                                            Stroller Safety and Class Rules

Stroller Policy

Children ages 5 and younger MUST stay buckled in the stroller during class. Please remove yourself from the group if your child needs to get out for any reason. Once they are secured in the stroller/carrier again, join back with the group!

Children 5 and older may come to class with prior notice to the instructor and may walk with you in between stations, however they must sit AWAY from the bands. This means they can sit next to your stroller, on a bench, curb, or low wall as long as it is a safe distance away from moving equipment/bodies. They may not join you for the exercise even if the bands are not being used. They may not run around during class.

Little ones that are fussy may be held in your arms during class, However we encourage you to keep them in the stroller or wear them in a carrier. We will do our best to keep strollers moving and keep children entertained.

The resistance tubes we use are safe when used correctly, but can occasionally "snap" during class due to wear and tear. Our Instructors are trained to execute exercises safely so that if a band were to break, it would break away from the children. Please do not let your children play with or chew on the bands. Other than being dirty, they can also develop tiny tears in them, due to sharp baby teeth, which makes them more likely to break.

When one child get's out of the stroller, they all want to. The last 10 minutes of each class is used for abs and stretching. At the end of every class, we will end with "The Most Important Stretch of the Day: Your Smile!". This will be your cue to let your child out of the stroller if you wish.

Adhering to this policy will ensure that kids remain safe, happy and allow mom to get a great workout! Thank you for your cooperation.

Class start time

We want to honor your precious time. Classes start promptly at their start times. Please join the group when you are ready. There's no such thing as "late" here.

Plenty of water, towel or yoga mat/blanket, sunscreen (for outdoor classes), baby essentials including snacks and/or toys for your little one(s), comfortable walking/running shoes, appropriate exercise attire, and any kind of stroller. Jogging strollers are not required.

I just had a baby, when can I join?

You can begin attending class with your doctor's clearance to begin exercising, typically after your six week postpartum appointment. See you there, Mama!

Can I attend classes if I am pregnant?

Absolutely! We encourage expectant moms to continue to exercise throughout their pregnancies as long as everything has been approved by their physician. Instructors are qualified to lead our professionally designed pre/postnatal fitness programs that follow the latest American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) guidelines. We can modify any exercise that poses a challenge as you progress through your pregnancy. FIT4MOM® recommends you obtain your doctor’s approval prior to beginning any exercise program. If pregnant, please speak with your physician before your first day.

Exercise during pregnancy has proven beneficial and helps improve or increase the following:

  • Cardiovascular fitness

  • Muscular strength/endurance

  • Energy levels

  • Higher fatigue threshold

  • Posture and biomechanics

  • Circulation

  • Self-esteem, sense of well-being

Do I need to be a Runner to attend these classes?

Absolutely not! FIT4MOM is for moms of ALL fitness levels. We meet for a warm up, then power walk, jog, or run to each exercise station. You exercise at the pace you feel most comfortable.

At what age can my baby be in a jogger?

As a general guideline, when your baby can hold his/her head up, he/she can ride in a jogger. But, we suggest that you follow your own stroller manufacturer’s guidelines. You can use a head roll and bolster to make your baby even more secure. With shock absorbers and recline features, the age can be quite young. Please discuss with your pediatrician if you have further questions.

Do I need a jogging stroller for the workout?

Jogging strollers are not required. As long as the stroller is sturdy, not prone to tipping and all children can be safely strapped into their seats for the duration of class, it will work just fine!

My Baby doesn't like being in the stroller for too long, how will I get a good workout?

Your child is a priority, so don't worry if your baby becomes fussy during class! Our classes are designed to keep the kids moving and engaged by incorporating songs and various props to keep them entertained. With that said, if you need to change, feed or console your baby, please do so (remember, you are in good company). Kids will have good and bad days and we understand that. Your child will adapt and learn to love it! Ask your instructor for tips and tricks too!

How old does my baby need to be to start classes?

Your child can join you at any age as long as they can still safely be buckled in the stroller. We recommend waiting until you have medical clearance from your physician (normally this is 6-8 weeks postpartum). Always obtain your doctor's permission before starting this or any other kind of exercise program.

What do I do if my baby gets fussy during class?

That's okay! You will be in a group full of moms with their kids - we've all been there and we all get it. We will do our best to keep them moving, happy and entertained.

What if I need to feed my baby during class?

We’ve got you, Mama! If you need to change, nurse or console your baby, please do so. Your instructor will make sure to provide you with comfort and discretion during class. You're in good company.

Can my older children walk along or ride their bike during class?

Safety is our first priority, so please contact us to discuss options for older children. Children under 5 years old are required to remain in a stroller for the duration of class. We are committed to providing safe classes for everyone involved.

School-Aged children may walk next to your stroller. Please see other FAQ's for details.
